So you have reached ‘Book Reviews with the Blogmonstar’ and want to know more about the ‘monstar’.
I set up this blog originally to post updates from my fanlistings and odd ramblings from my NaNoWriMo creations. In 2012 I decided to make the best use of the blog as a book review site. So that’s what you will find here now mostly, although I also there is also non-review posts that may or may not be book related. They’re mostly book related in some way or another though.
My actual name is Chantelle. The ‘blogmonstar’ name came from my other online username ‘tellemonstar’. There’s not really a story behind it. Why books? Because I love them so much. I am not allowed in bookstores/libraries if I only have a short time to spare, because I can guarantee I will be far longer than the time I actually have. Books smell wonderful, although I have no bias against e-books or audiobooks either. There’s 500+ books on my ereader, and in terms of space, that’s really good or there just wouldn’t be room for me in my bedroom if I owned that many physical copies. I dream of having my own library one day though. Books are also great for escaping reality and/or boredom when I am in hospital or the doctor’s waiting room.
I’ve always loved to read – the first novels I can remember reading where the Babysitter’s Club’s Little Sister ones and the Enid Blyton ones aimed at younger kids (Flopsy and Topsy, Amelia Jane Again, etc). My first introduction to fantasy was Roald Dahl. Quite frankly I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator and the BFG should be read to all children or given to all children to read. My first introduction to ‘proper’ fantasy was the Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce. Girl-power and magic and swordplay all wrapped up in one quartet.
That being said, I’ve also got a major yen for supernatural/paranormal, mysteries (including cozy mysteries), crime, young adult, chick-lit, romance (not bodice rippers though, you won’t find any of those little pink Mills & Boons on my shelf), real-life stories and science/medical books as well.
Favourite Authors: J. K. Rowling, Tamora Pierce, Roald Dahl, Nora Roberts, J.D. Robb, Charlaine Harris, Laurell K Hamilton, Jeff Linday, Jim Butcher, Kathy Reichs.
Reading Location: Beanbag, bed, armchair, dining table or couch. Depends on where I am & my mood.
